31st International Student Scientific Conference

28.04.2026

The Student Scientific Society of the Medical University of Gdańsk (STN GUMed) recently concluded the 31st International Student Scientific Conference, held from March 26th to 28th at the University Clinical Centre. Bringing together undergraduate and doctoral students from around the world, the conference provided a dynamic platform for presenting original research and case reports under the theme: “Horizons of Healthcare: New Frontiers in Science, Discovery, and Medicine.”

A Multidisciplinary Scientific Hub

The 31st edition marked a notable expansion in both scope and participation, reinforcing ISSC’s growing international reputation. Participants represented numerous countries and academic institutions, contributing to a vibrant exchange of ideas across disciplines. In total, 113 presentations were showcased, including both original research and case reports.

For the first time, a dedicated Pharmacy session was introduced, further strengthening the interdisciplinary dialogue between medicine, biomedical sciences, and pharmaceutical research. This addition reflects the evolving landscape of modern healthcare, where cross-sector collaboration is increasingly essential.
The conference was organized under STN and supervised by prof. Miłosz Jaguszewski, with academic guidance from dr Agnieszka Anielska.

Insights from Global Experts

A central highlight of the conference was its keynote lecture series, featuring distinguished experts from both Poland and abroad.
- Prof. Jecko Varghese Thachil explored the complexities of coagulation and its clinical implications.
- Dr. hab. n. med. Piotr Zieliński presented future perspectives in neurooncology.
- Prof. dr hab. med. Rafał Płoski discussed the role of exome sequencing in diagnosing and discovering rare diseases.
- Prof. Sadasivan Vidyasagar offered valuable insights into translating laboratory research into real-world applications and commercialization.
These sessions not only highlighted cutting-edge developments but also inspired participants to think beyond traditional academic pathways.

Practical Innovation and the Plenary Session

Beyond oral and poster presentations, 31st ISSC emphasized practical learning through more than 17 specialized workshops. Organized in collaboration with Student Scientific Circles, these sessions provided hands-on training in both clinical and research-oriented skills, bridging the gap between theory and practice. The conference culminated in the prestigious Plenary Session, where the top five presenters competed for the Grand Prize. The award was granted with the continued support of the Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk, Michał Markuszewski, recognizing outstanding scientific achievement and presentation excellence.

The Grand Prize was awarded to Ritu Amit Chhabria for the presentation entitled “Ophelia Syndrome: A Paraneoplastic Limbic Encephalitis Associated with Classical Hodgkin Lymphoma – Case Report.”
